XARlabs' simXAR Facilitates Successful Simulation and Planning of Conjoined Twins Separation

ANKARA, 18 September 2024 -- XARlabs' pioneering mixed reality platform, simXAR, played a pivotal role in the successful separation of conjoined twins, performed by a surgical team from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, in collaboration with a renowned Turkish hospital. This landmark surgery marks the first use of simXAR in such a complex medical procedure, demonstrating its immense potential in surgical planning and simulation.

The medical team utilised simXAR to view detailed 3D visualisations of the twins' anatomy, allowing for precise pre-operative planning and real-time guidance during the surgery. The immersive mixed reality environment provided by simXAR enabled the surgeons to explore various surgical approaches, enhancing their understanding and confidence.

“We are incredibly proud to have contributed to this global effort, in collaboration with the remarkable team at Gemini Untwined, to give two beautiful children the chance at a normal life,” said Ali Haddad, Founder, neurosurgeon, and NHS Clinical Entrepreneur at XARlabs. "The feedback we’ve received highlights the transformative potential of our technology in revolutionising surgical planning. We hope to continue our contribution to charitable efforts with Gemini Untwined, as supporting such initiatives will be a core principle of our company. With simXAR, surgeons can achieve a deeper understanding of complex anatomical structures, improving preparation and surgical outcomes."

Professor Owase Jeelani, Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital and founder of the Gemini Untwined Charity , added, “The use of simXAR in planning the twins’ separation added a new dimension to our surgical approach. The ability to simulate and interact with a 3D model of the twins’ anatomy gave us critical insights and allowed the team to anticipate potential challenges well in advance. This technology represents a remarkable step forward in how we approach complex surgeries.”
